Spring Into Cyber Safety!

Password Pro Tips

We all use the internet and have online accounts that are password-protected. That means it’s important we all know how to securely create and safeguard those passwords so as to not compromise our accounts! Keep reading to learn a few password pro tips.

DO:

  • Use a password manager. This is a tool that will safely store all your passwords and create individual, unique passwords for each account. That way, you don’t have to worry about forgetting anything while keeping your account protected!

  • Set up 2FA. 2FA stands for two-factor authentication. It verifies that the person who is trying to log in is the right person. After you enter your username and password, you’ll be prompted with some other form of verification. This could be a PIN, a link sent to another device, a security question, etc. When 2FA is available, you should always set it up to protect your accounts.

  • Change your passwords. Every few months, it’s a good idea to update your passwords. Changing everything will help deter any hackers from cracking your passwords on multiple accounts. Keep them on their toes!

DON’T:

  • Use the same passwords for all of your accounts. Though it may be easier to remember, this is a great way to allow hackers to compromise all your accounts and personal information.

  • Use sensitive information. Putting details like your name, birthday, favorite sports teams, and other personal information into your passwords is dangerous. Hackers will try this information first when they attempt to crack passwords. A password manager can help you create unique passwords to avoid this.

  • Share your passwords with anyone. It is too risky to give passwords to friends and family for certain accounts. Keep your information a secret and avoid sharing it! You never know who could compromise your account.

Cyber safety is an important part of our online lives today. The more you know, the more protected you are!
